Harry Blair MacDonald, Merigomish / Pictou

Harry Blair MacDonald, age 92, from River Road, Merigomish, passed away May 13, 2015, in the Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou.
Born in Merigomish he was a son of the late Frank Herbert and Hazel (Blair) MacDonald.
Harry was a resident of Merigomish most of his life before moving to the Northumberland Veterans Unit in Pictou. Harry had attended Horton Academy and Acadia University before joining the army in 1941. He was a former owner operator of MacDonald Brothers Ltd. Merigomish for over 50 years. Harry was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, where he was clerk of session for 25 years. Harry was an active member of the community and was a founding member of the Merigomish Fire Department, a member of Crime Stoppers, was a 60-year member of Hudson Masonic Lodge No. 77 Thorburn and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He served as Master of Hudson Lodge No. 77 Thorburn from 1964 to 1965, District Deputy Grand Master Pictou County District 1986 to 1987, received his 50-year jewel in 2005 and 55-year bar in 2010, became Royal Arch Mason October 1974, Most Eminent High Priest 1980, Grand Steward 1990-1991, Noble of Philae Shriners June 11, 1977, President of the Pictou County Shriners 1999 and was a Shriners Clown for the children’s hospital.
Surviving is his wife, Adelaide Ann (Rhude), daughter, Stephanie (Michael Kelly), and grandson, Nathan Kelly, East Bay; sister, Mildred MacDonald, Merigomish; sister-in-laws, Valerie Rhude, Sydney, and Joyce MacDonald, Merigomish; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Agnes L. Gillis, a daughter in infancy, brother, Norval John MacDonald, sister, Marion Lorraine Fulton, and brother-in-law, Lawson Fulton.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, with Rev. Bonnie Wynn and Rev. Pat Rose officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish, at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society, St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, or the Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish.
