SURETTE, Delmer Desire – age 91, of the Villa St Joseph du Lac, passed away after a brief illness on May 14, 2015, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Pinkney’s Point, Yarmouth Co., on November 6, 1923, he was a son of the late Thomas and Rose Emma (Melanson) Surette. Delmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was known to be a kind and generous man to all that knew him and will be greatly missed. Delmer was a fisherman all of his life. In his spare time, he was an avid sports fan watching both hockey (Montreal Canadiens) and baseball (Boston Red Sox). He is survived by his children, Claire (Boyd) MacGillivray, Yarmouth; Allan (Linda), Yarmouth; Roland, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Shelley (Linda) Surette, Jennifer (Matt) Rhyno, Katherine (Colin) Murphy; great-grandchildren Isabelle, Ben, Will and Luke; sisters, Anita Surette, Meteghan; Laura Letteney, Yarmouth; Angie McCarthy, Yarmouth; Betty Margolian, Windsor; Leona Jorstad, Ontario; Christina Kuzyk, Ontario. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Iola; brothers, Arnold, Benjamin, Roy, Ronald, Clarence, Donald, Edward, Arthur; sisters, Freda, Doris, Marion, Emily. Special thanks to the staff at Villa St. Joseph and the Yarmouth Hospital and Dr. David Webster for their care and kindness to Delmer. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There was no visitation by family request. A funeral service was held Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Deacon Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. A reception followed in the Saint Ambrose Jubilee Room. Family flowers only please. Donations in Delmer’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
