Ernest Alfred Purvis, age 81, of Falmouth, died peacefully and suddenly of heart failure at home on May 10, 2015. He was born August 25, 1933 in Windsor, to the late Grace A. Purvis. He was married to Yolande "Yogi" Adele (Long) on July 15, 1965. As a young man Ernie was a talented athlete who is most remembered as being an avid hockey player here in Windsor. He went on to play hockey in the military during his 10 years of service with the Royal Canadian Air Force (1954-64). Following his military career he moved to Ontario where he met his wife and raised his family. He worked as a truck driver for over 40 years. He returned home to Nova Scotia in the 1987 and resided in Falmouth since then. He is survived by his wife Yolande "Yogi"; his children Daniel of Halifax; Jo-Anne "Jodi" (Larry Bezanson) of Windsor; and Christopher (Brandie) of Fredericton, NB; his grandchildren, Zachary and Adam; his brother, Garwin (June) of Windsor. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Grace A. Purvis; his sister, Joyce Ripley (Joseph); his sister, Marie Nogler (Albert). He was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Sophia Marie Purvis. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 15, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. A graveside service was at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth. The Rev. Garnet Parker officiated.
