It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey Brian Jeans on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born on September 1, 1943, he was the son of the late Pearley and Irene (Gallop) Jeans.
Surviving are his son, William, Sydney; brothers, Bill (Sharon), Halifax, Ralph (Judy), Blackett’s Lake, Allan (Nina), Orangeville, Ont. and Dwight (Calla), Florenceville, N.B.; sister, Deborah, Quebec City, QC; granddaughter, Craigen, one great-grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Harvey was predeceased by his wife, Mary and son, Troy, as well as his brother, Douglas.
In his early years, Harvey was well-known in the grocery business, serving as manager of Sobeys in Sydney and North Sydney, as well as the Co-op in Ashby. He was a devoted father and husband, who cared a great deal for his family life. He and Mary were well-known for their delicious cooking and baking, which they so generously shared with family and friends.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and various care givers who supported Harvey during his lengthy illness. Thank you, also, to Jane Keller, who Harvey joking referred to as his “girlfriend” for her many visits.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in Harvey’s memory at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 18 at 2 p.m. Interment in Alfred Smith Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
