Jean Manzer

MANZER, JEAN MARIE
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their mother, Jean Marie (Woodley) Manzer which occurred while surrounded by her family at Embassy Hall, Shannex on May 14, 2015.
Born in 1927, in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William James and Flora Mae (MacCormack) Woodley. Mom was a graduate of Saint John High School and was raised in the south end of Saint John. She spent many wonderful summers in her beloved Drury Cove with her brothers and sisters and later with her own children. In 1950 she married the love of her life, “Bob” who affectionately referred to her as “Child.”
Mom was an intelligent, independent woman with incredible inner strength and determination. She had an unwavering faith in God, studying the Bible throughout her life. Her determination to make “good citizens” of her own children and to help those less fortunate were her greatest goals in life. With Dad away at sea for a large part of their married life, Mom was often both the mother and father singlehandedly orchestrating everything from laundry to snow shoveling.
Mom was a volunteer at the New Brunswick Museum, Forest Hills Elementary School, Parents Student School Committee (PSSC) and the Saturday Night Supper Club. She was a moving force for the Glen View United Church congregation’s outreach ministry, including the Glen View Preschool and Breakfast Programs. The Jean Manzer Church in Action Room was dedicated to Mom in 2011 in recognition of the programs that she introduced and nurtured and the countless children and families whose lives were enriched through them.
Jean is survived by her son Robert (Barbara Bennett) of Brussels; daughters Yvonne Manzer (Paul Hannon) of Halifax, Jacqueline McIntyre (Kris) of Saint John, Jennifer Elizabeth Ross (Jeff) of Quispamsis, Stephanie Haslam-Kucerovsky (Dan) of Fredericton, Alison Flood (David) of Rothesay; sister Alice Brown of Saint John; grandchildren Simon Manzer, Brett and Carson Manzer, Joe McIntyre (Leila) Kristy Brideau (Peter), Zachary Haslam, Jack and Liam Flood; great grandchildren Sasha and Jacqueline Brideau, Madeline, Elise and Amelie McIntyre; step-grandchildren John and Jamie Kucerovsky as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Robert, daughter Jennifer Alice, in infancy, brothers Carl, Jack, Lloyd, Bill, and sister Doris Jones.
Mom’s family would like to extend our undying gratitude to Mom’s faithful caregiver and friend, Tammy Comeau who ensured that our Mom was comfortable and felt loved when we were unable to be there with her. We would also like to thank Bonnie Culley, Monica Newman, Cindy Hebert, Dr. England and Dr. Quinn as well as the dedicated staff at Embassy Hall for your kindness to our Mom.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday May 17, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Mom’s Life will take place from Glen View United Church (8 Upland Rd. Saint John) on Monday May 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Romero House in Jean’s memory.
