PICTOU LANDING - Alta E. Foye. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother Alta Elizabeth “Bick” (Roach) Foye on her 100th birthday, May 16, 2015 at Glen Haven Manor, formerly of Pictou Landing. She was surrounded by her nine loving children.
Born in Hillside on May 16, 1915, she was the third daughter of the late George Hawthorne Roach and Charlotte Anne (Woodin) (Roach) Butler.
She is survived by daughters: Pauline Fraser, Trenton; Georgie Foye, Pictou Landing; Myrna (Ron) Salter, Pleasant Valley; Lois Fraser, Westville; Lorraine (Kevin) Forbes, Sherwood Park, Alberta; Darlene (Raymond) Kirk, Thorburn; sons: Ron (Nancy), Elkford, B.C.; Bryan (Diane), Wakefield, Quebec; and Lorne (Karen), Troy, N.S; also survived by 22 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren; nephews: Lassiter and Alden McLean, Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Samuel Edward Foye; and infant son Dennis; sons-in-law: Roderick Fraser and Forrest Harold Fraser; sisters Anna (Nan) Carmichael; Hazel McLean; and Willa Jean in infancy; brother Howard Butler.
Her life was devoted to raising her children. She was a member of the Hillside W.A., cooked at MREC church camp in Chance Harbour for many summers and a member of the Triple M square dance club in Trenton.
She enjoyed travelling, knitting, rug hooking, quilting, reading and took great pride in her flower gardens. Most of all she enjoyed being surrounded by her large family celebrating birthdays, baptisms, Christmas, picnics and family visits.
Her remains are resting at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, High Street, Trenton with visiting on Monday, May 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will take place in the First United Church Hall on Tuesday, May 19 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Wade Reppert officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Glen Haven Recreational Fund, First United Church, JDRF or charity of your choice.
