William Douglas “Doug” Fraser, MacLellan’s Brook
The family of Doug Fraser are saddened to report his passing at the Aberdeen Hospital on May 16, 2015.
Born in MacLellan’s Brook on February 28, 1928, he was the only child of the late Calder and Annie (Fraser) Fraser.
He lived his entire life on the family farm in MacLellan’s Brook among close neighbours and many friends where he continued to operate the family farm while working a 35-year career at Hawker Siddeley, retiring as Superintendent of the Punch, Shears and Press Department. Doug was a member of the Supervisors Club and their lobster and steak dinner at the farm was a much anticipated annual event.
Doug was a Mason with Hudson Lodge No. 77 Thorburn, a member of the St. Andrew’s Society of Pictou County, Clerk of Session of St. John Presbyterian Church, McLennan’s Mountain. He found time to welcome many to his fishing camp at Chisholm Lake and to make four trips with his truck and camper to Alaska. Famous for his maple syrup he continued a multi-generation tradition stopping only two years ago at age 85.
During his trips across Canada, to Newfoundland, Australia and Great Britain, he acquired many friends. In recent years he enjoyed many evenings playing auction at the card games in Bridgeville and Thorburn.
Doug was predeceased by his first wife Mary (Rundle) and is survived by his children John (Elaine Hattie); Ann (Mike Pollard); Bill (Karen Hattie); and Emily (Dan Patterson); second wife June Wadden; his grandchildren Ashley; Andrew; Mark; Aaron; Amanda; Douglas; James; Andrea; and Alex; four great-grandchildren and step-children Gary Wadden (Sherry); Allan Wadden (Mary); and Cindy Wadden (Kevin); and their families.
The family extends their appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Aberdeen ICU, 4 South and Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of dad.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in St. John Presbyterian Church, McLennan’s Mountain with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Internment will be in the Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellan’s Brook. Family flowers only.
Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to St John Presbyterian Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or a charity of your choice.
