Rector, Dorothy Beatrice, age 89, of Debert Court and formerly of Great Village, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Debert Court. Born in Economy, she was a daughter of the late Osborne and Julia (Elliott) Pettigrew. She was a former school teacher for several years, teaching in Economy and Montrose. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend to all. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughter, Susan (Rector) Dodsworth, Great Village; sons, Lauchie Rector (Joanne Bartlett) and Douglas (Donna) Rector, Great Village; Seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, Thea. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; daughter, Hazel; sons, Robert, Carl Edward, Ronald Gordon; sisters, Janet, Joan; brothers, Frank, Robert, Royal. Visitation will be held 1 to 1:50 pm, and funeral service 2 pm, Saturday, May 23, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with a reception to follow. Interment will then be held in the Baptist Cemetery in Bass River. Family flowers only. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the I.W.K Foundation or to Debert Court.
