Ernest Edgar Usher, aged 95 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Saturday, May 16th, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in Moose Jaw, SK on November 30th, 1919 to Samuel and Mary Usher. He was the fourth of seven children. In 1940, he enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the Governor General’s Horse Guard 3rd Armoured Division with the 5th Regiment as a tank mechanic, and served overseas from 1941–1945. After the war, Ernie returned to Moose Jaw and worked for CP Express, where he worked for 32 years before retiring. Ernie met the love of his life, Mavis Herbert and they married on October 21st, 1950. They were married for 54 years before her passing in May 2005. Ernie enjoyed racing pigeons and won many trophies throughout his racing years. He was an avid gardener and we all looked forward to the fresh veggies he grew in his garden. He loved a good game of crib. His favorite pastime of all was watching his children and grandchildren in their various sporting activities. He was their biggest fan. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Mary Usher; sisters: Rita Horsnall, Dorothy Pryor and Helen Rule; and brothers, Fred and Tom Usher. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Mavis and infant twins, Catherine and Ernest. Ernie is survived by his children: Allan (Dawn) Usher, Karen (Bill) Moore, Brian Usher, Brenda (Larry) Dow and Ron (Shellene) Usher; sister, Marjorie Hall; grandchildren: Christie (Andrew) Arsenault, Robert Usher (Tori), Lauren (Brian) James, Kristin (Michael) Marchand, Shannon Usher (Jared), Ryan (Lisa) Usher, Stacey Dow (Dan), Steven Dow, Tiffany Usher (Adam), Kimberly and Danielle Usher; great-grandchildren: Tianna, Mykayla and Caydan, Alyssa, Logan and Calla, Liam, Tyra and D’Kotah, Myia and Sierra. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Ernie’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
