Sergeant Jim Bonner (Ret) died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife Donna in his home in Lanark County, Ont. on May 15, 2015 at the age of 54.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Donna; children, Leonard Mills and Shallyn Mills and beloved grandchildren, Darion and Liliana. He is also survived by his mother, Frances Bonner and sisters, Nancy Bonner, Kathy Bonner and Kelly Albertson.
He was predeceased by his father, James Grady Bonner.
The son of an RCR soldier, Jim was born in London, Ont. and raised on various army bases. Like many Cape Bretoners, Jim nevertheless called Glace Bay, N.S. home. Jim was a proud veteran of the Canadian Forces with 23 years of distinguished service in the Air Force. He was a respected flight engineer with tours overseas in the Sinai and in Somalia. His career took him to many parts of this great country with postings at CFB Cold Lake, as well as 403, 424, 427, 440 and 400 Squadrons. His military decorations include MFD Sinai, UNOSOM, CPSM and CD.
There will be an interment ceremony held at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa on Monday, May 25, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. with a wake to follow at the Stittsville Legion, 1481 Stittsville Main St., Ottawa at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund (www.woundedwarriors.ca).
