CAMERON, GRETA M.
It is with great sadness that the family of Greta M. Cameron of Serenacare, Lady Russell Road, Moncton, NB announce her passing on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Moncton City Hospital. She was born on July 25, 1918 in Pleasantvilla, Queens County, NB to the late Frederick W. A. Cameron and Winnifred G. Cameron (Palmer).
Greta was well known for her amazing baking skills – especially her delicious bread and rolls. She was a very friendly and outgoing person who had a knack for remembering names and faces, even now.
During her younger years, Greta worked at the Wartime Prices and Trade Board, Canadian General Electric, and James Robertson Plumbing. At the time of her retirement, she had been employed by Centracare (Provincial Hospital) for a number of years.
Greta very much enjoyed her day trips with the “Higgins girls”, Margaret, Allie, and Kay, in earlier times. She was in her element when discussing recipes and cook books with Jodi, the chef at Serenacare.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Kathy (Cameron) Bilben of Shediac who was very close to her mother, visiting often and speaking virtually every day. She is also survived by her grandson, Mark Duffley (Alicia), Saint John and granddaughter, Megan Merritt (Jay),Moncton who were a great source of happiness and pride to “Gramma”.The joys of her life were her precious great-granddaughters Molly and Anna Merritt on whom she doted. Their visits were keenly anticipated and enjoyed to the nth degree. After spending 96 years in Saint John she relocated to Moncton to be closer to them. Until quite recently, “GG” thrilled Molly and Anna with rides on her walker and discreet gifts of chocolate and those children completed her life. Greta is also survived by her brother, Lawrence Cameron, Saint John, sisters, Marg DeLong (Don), Rothesay, and Donna Lloyd (Ray), Saint John.
Greta loved her siblings’ children and grandchildren, especially the little ones, often requesting that Annika and Elijah visit her at Brentwood so that she could spoil them with cookies and treats. She welcomed visits from all of her siblings’ children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Greta was predeceased by her sisters, Helen McIntosh, Freda Cameron; brother, Arthur Cameron, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Cameron.
The family would like to thank Susan Dixon and the Serenacare staff for the compassion that they showed Greta and all the extras that made her stay there so special. Also, the Moncton City Hospital for the excellent care that she received during her final days.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greta’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, Bobby’s Hospice, or charity of donor’s choice.
