LEBLANC, GILLES
1962-2015
Gilles LeBlanc, 53, passed away on May 22nd, 2015 following a long struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Born, January 16, 1962, in Moncton, he was the son of Ronald and Ella LeBlanc of Moncton. A (1984) Business Administration graduate from l’Université de Moncton, he worked as Director of Material Resources for Villa Providence Shediac and their 12 corporations.
During his career he was instrumental in the creation of Contract Management Services Limited a multi-million dollar medical purchasing group for New Brunswick hospitals and nursing homes, becoming the inaugural Chairman for the 62 provincial nursing homes’ Advisory Committee for the initial five years.
He opened the New Brunswick office for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada, was the founding President of the New Brunswick Purchasing Management Institute, President, Vice-president and Chairman of Professional Development for the PMAC Moncton Branch and represented New Brunswick, Atlantic Canada and parts of Quebec at various times at the National level.
During his illness, Gilles authored a book A View from Above, served as President of the ALS Society of New Brunswick, founded the Support for Champions Fund for the children of ALS families and appeared before the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada. He was also a National Leadership Award recipient with ALS Canada, a two-time Spirit Award recipient with ALS New Brunswick/Nova Scotia and honored with a CPP degree by NBPMI.
Prior to his illness, he played hockey and coached both minor hockey and baseball. No matter the endeavor, his passion for life touched many people in a very positive way.
Gilles is survived by his former wife Murielle (Landry), sons Patrick and Leon and by his parents Ronald and Ella LeBlanc of Moncton. The family would like to thank all of Gilles’ caregivers, especially his nurse Shirley Smallwood.
At Gilles’ request there will be no public visitation. A Celebration of the Word will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home Chapel, 363 Amirault Street Dieppe (857-1901) on Monday, May 25th, 2015 at 4 pm.
