Kathleen Holland

HOLLAND, KATHLEEN
Kathleen Veronica (Steele) Holland passed away May 23, 2015 at Embassy Hall - Parkland in the Valley, Quispamsis, NB. Kay was born December 28, 1929 in Saint John, NB to John Matthew Steele and Kathleen Elizabeth (King) Steele.
She was the youngest of six children: John (Jake/Jack) Eva Lynch), Robert (Bob) (Eleanor Forsythe), Arthur (died in infancy), Madeline (Mid), and Dorothy (Dot) Cormier (Doug). To her family she was also “Babe”. Kathleen was the last member of her generation of the Steele family.
Born and raised in Saint John’s North End, Kathleen attended St. Peter’s Girl’s School. Kathleen worked for over 20 years at Commercial Union Insurance in Saint John. It was there that she met her husband, Noel Holland. Noel and Kathleen resided in Grand Bay, where Kathleen shared in Noel’s enjoyment of sailing and boats. They enjoyed travelling; Kathleen spoke often of their time in England. Upon his sudden passing in 1985 Kathleen retired. Kay volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Grand Bay-Westfield for 20 years, and was also a member of the Saint John Choral Society. Kathleen took up painting - another hobby of her late husband - after his passing, and became skilled in the creation of landscape and still life images. She also took great pleasure in cooking. Always close with her sister Mid, in 2006 Kathleen returned to Montreal Avenue to provide companionship and care to her sister. Her love and devotion was truly remarkable.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Robert (Bob) Steele (Nicole) - Fredericton, NB, Cathy Kirby (Pat) - Mt. Pearl, NL, Michael Cormier (Sherye) - Edmonton, AB, Mark Cormier - Waterloo, ON, Derek Cormier (JoAnne Le Blanc) - Dartmouth, NS, Ann Cormier (Jeff Dykstra) - London ON, Elaine Cormier - Charlottetown, PE, Andrew Cormier (Marieve Woodrough) - Montreal, QC, as well as many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and step-daughters Rosemary and Julia.
She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends particularly her caring neighbours on Montreal Avenue. She made wonderful friendships at her new home at Embassy Hall.
