Hazel May MacPhee

Born In: Sydney

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: May 23rd, 2015

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Hazel May MacPhee passed away peacefully on May 23, 2015, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney. She was 76 years old.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Gladys (Van Haitsma) Tobin. Hazel was a polio survivor from the age of 12. Through the creativity and love of her family and her own determination and strength she survived polio and beat the odds given to her. She didn’t only survive, she lived and prospered. She loved to entertain and formulated some interesting ideas around how to do this, especially the one involving her spaghetti dinners. She truly enjoyed and listened with pride to her husband Byron playing the fiddle. Hazel’s greatest passion was taking care of her home and her family.
She will be missed by her loving husband, Byron Sr.; children, Darlene (Bobby) Csernyik and Byron Jr. (Lavernne); sisters, Norine MacIntyre, Carol (Bob) Peters, Bertha Duffney; grandchildren, Robby and Chris Csernyik; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by brothers in law, Mickey MacIntyre and Gordon Duffney.
We would like to thank her sisters, Norine, Carol and Bertha, for the loving care they gave her and a special thank you to the staff at Shannex LaVattes Lane for their support.
Visitation for the late Hazel MacPhee will be held on Wednesday, May 27, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and continuing until the time of the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. both at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Fr. Norman MacPhee will officiate. A reception will follow the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel’s memory may be made to Polio Nova Scotia.
