It is with deep sadness we, the family of Jim Bonner, announce his passing on May 15, 2015 at his home in Ottawa, Ont.
Jim was the son of Frances Cox and the late Grady Bonner of Glace Bay.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Len and Shallyn; grandchildren, Darion and Liliana; sisters, Kathy, Nancy (Dave), Keli (Matt); nephews, Tyler, Julian, Peter, Liam; nieces, Emma and Kayleigh and also many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jim fought a short and courageous battle with an aggressive cancer.
At Jim's request, we (all the family) spent two weeks with him and his family a week before his passing. We were blessed to have been surrounding him when he received the last rites of the Catholic church.
Jim was a proud veteran of the Canadian Forces servicng 23 years in the airforce. Jim spent his retirement enjoying fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and coming home to Cape Breton to visit family and friends. He always looked forward to attending "Birchfest" with his cousins and friends.
Interment was held at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa, Ont. on Monday, May 25, 2015.
Here in Cape Breton Jim will be remembered by family and friends at a mass at Holy Cross Church, Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 7 p.m.
