SYLVESTER – Janet Elinor Dunbar, age 83 of Sylvester, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late Gus and Dorothy (Drew) Riley.
Janet was born and raised in Stellarton. She resided in Westville for many years before moving to Sussex. Upon retirement she returned to Pictou County. During her working years she was employed with Clairtone and the N.B. Tourist Bureau. Janet enjoyed knitting, reading and was an avid hockey and baseball fan. Her home was always open for anyone to visit.
Surviving are her children: Sheryl (Gilbert) Cyr, Durham; Marcia Mahoney, Loch Broom; Bill Dunbar, Pictou; Alan Dunbar, Brampton, Ont; Roger (Debbie) Dunbar, Clifton Royal, N.B; a sister Phyllis Adamson, Pickering, Ont; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; also a number of brothers and sisters-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband William (Billy) Dunbar; a granddaughter Janet; a brother Allison and a sister Kathleen.
The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Norman Marple officiating. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Abercrombie Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Farrell and nurses on the Palliative Care Unit for the excellent care our mother and family received on the Palliative Care Unit. Special thank you to our aunt Marilyn for her support to our family.
Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Janet may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
