Millicent “Millie” GOLDING
August 31, 1922 – May 22, 2015
Millicent (Millie) passed away peacefully with family at her side, on May 22, 2015, in her home at Samaritan Place in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 92 years. Millie was born August 31, 1922 in Duck Lake, SK (with the assistance of a mid-wife) to Harry and Lydia Hood. Mom married Edwin (Ted) Golding on June 11, 1946 in Duck Lake, SK and they began their 68 years together, on their farm in the MacDowell District. They started out with little more than their love and commitment to each other. Mom is survived by her loving husband Edwin (Ted); her six children, Edwin Junior (Flo), Sharon (Dennis) Knight, Spencer (Cheryl), Curtis (Roseline), Sheryl (Wayne) Kulyk, and Sheldon (Corinna). Her children blessed her with sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. Millicent is also survived by her brother George Hood; sisters-in-law; Doris Lenz, Marguarite Roa, Cathy Golding and numerous nieces and nephews. Millicent was predeceased by her parents Harry and Lydia Hood; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Ernest and Elsie Golding; her siblings Irene, Malcolm, Fred, and Scott; sisters-in-law Ann Solowan, and Therese Hood; brothers-in-law Selwyn Golding, Maurice Golding and John Golding; nephew Edward Hood and grandson Casey Golding. Mom’s greatest passions were her family and her flowers. In her early years she spent many hours sewing winter coats and other clothing for her growing family. Another of her loves was knitting, from which her children and grandchildren received many cherished gifts. Later in life she enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and fine china. There was an extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers and spoons which were gathered as mementos from many of their road trips. Mom was known as a great cook and baker; she entered numerous baking and preserves into the PA Exhibition and won many ribbons throughout the years. Mom held numerous jobs outside the home including: pie baker for the P.A. Co-op, “Banquet Coordinator” for many years at the Coronet Motor Hotel in Prince Albert, as well as helping Dad to maintain the West Central Public School. Our special thank you to Margaret DerFong for writing and presenting the eulogy. The family would also like to thank the staff of Bethany Lodge in Middle Lake, SK, as well as the staff of Samaritan Place in Saskatoon, SK, for their kind and compassionate care of Mom during her time with them. We would also like to thank Lorne Adams and Gray’s Funeral Home for their guidance and understanding at this difficult time. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at St. David’s Anglican Church, 500 – 24th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with The Reverend Dr. Norbert Haukenfrers officiating.
