It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Sweet Carol Anne on May 24, 2015 in the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Carol Anne was surrounded by her loving family until her last moment.
Born in New Waterford on April 2, 1960, she was the daughter of John and Leona (Lever) Power.
Carol Anne attended Mount Carmel School and later Breton Education Centre, graduating in 1978. She graduated from the Cape Breton Business College in 1980.
Carol Anne had a long career with Scotiabank, working in the New Waterford and Glace Bay branches with over 28 years of service. She enjoyed working with her clients and always took a moment to chat or help them through a problem.
With her business background along with an entrepreneurial spirit, Carol Anne established and was the owner, operator of Karmac Auto Centre in New Waterford for ten years from 2004-2014.
Carol Anne and her husband, Ticker met each other in 1979 while “shooting the drag” in their hometown of New Waterford, and so the adventure began and continued for 36 years. On Sept. 28, 1985, they married and three healthy, beautiful daughters followed in quick succession.
Carol Anne loved life, her family and friends. She and Ticker, shared a passion for travelling and shopping, enjoying many trips together to Cheticamp, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nashville, California, Florida and Alberta. In their 1939 Chevy, Carol Anne and Ticker toured the Maritimes and the Eastern United States. She also enjoyed travelling to many events and vacations with her girlfriends from Scotiabank, creating many memories along the way.
In February 2015, Carol Anne and Ticker vacationed in Florida with friends, visiting Disney World, shopping and enjoying the sunshine.
Carol Anne had a great passion for life and was always eager to try something new. Her sense of humour was often shared with others in the form of a funny story. Carol Anne’s smile lit up the room and the lives of everything she touched. Believing in a healthy lifestyle, she was very active, enjoying running, yoga and walking her favourite grand-dogs Emma and Zoey. Carol Anne was a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul food drives, lead a team in the ‘Run for a Cure’ and was a paddler with the Plumber’s Union Dragon Boat team.
Carol Anne is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, John 'Ticker' McIntyre; daughters, Katie, Sarah (Nathan) Soldon and Nicole. Also surviving are her parents, John and Leona Power; sister, Denise (Paul) White and their daughter, Amy (Eric). Her brother, Greg (Judi) Power and their children, Crystal, Jonathan and Joel Power; mother-in-law, Cecilia (Spickie Bisson) McIntyre; sister-in-law, Frances (Vince) MacDonald and their children, Jenna and James, Brenda McIntyre, Theresa MacNeil (Jimmy) and her children, Maggie (Nick), Duncan and Rory McIntyre; brothers-in-law, Billy, Bernie and Stephen (Michelle) McIntyre and their children, Joshua and Zachary. She is also survived by her special uncle, Morley (Gerrie) Lever and their families.
Carol Anne was predeceased by her brothers, Morley and Bradley Power; father-in-law, Duncan McIntyre and brother-in-law, Jimmy McIntyre.
Special thanks to Dr. Harless, Dr. Jensen, Dr. Sherriff, Dr. Reggie Sebastian, and the amazing staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. The staff of 4B, VON and the Palliative Care Unit. Thank you, Dr. Rose MacKay for providing on-going support throughout Carol Anne’s illness. Also special thanks to David and Marsha Smith and their daughters, our next door neighbours and second family, for the past 28 years. And to Jenn Blanchard and Karen Gaudet, for their friendship and continued support.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass to celebrate Carol Anne’s life will take place on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave, New Waterford, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at Saint Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
In lieu of food being sent to the family home, the family respectfully wishes that donations can be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society or to a local food bank. Donations can also be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hopital online at becauseyoucare.ca.
