On Tuesday, May 26, 2015 Art was called home to be with his Lord. He passed away at Oshawa, Ontario, he was in his 97th year. Art was the only son of the late Jack and Tess Sheppard. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, “Neicey”. He leaves to mourn one daughter, Carol Sheppard and one son, Robert.

He was born and raised in Saint John, where he received his early education. He studied commercial art at the Saint John Vocational School. Later, he was employed in the field of outdoor advertising with E.L. Ruddy Co. Ltd. and Claude Neon Ltd. He was a longtime member of the St. Mary's Band and a member of the 23rd Heavy A.A. Regiment, R.C.A. Band. Following his call to the Christian Ministry, he attended Acadia University where he studied Theology. He was ordained into the Baptist Ministry and held Pastoral positions in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, the State of Maine, and Brandon, Manitoba. He organized and was the principal of the Brandon Christian Academy. Later, he was appointed Chaplain of the Alcoholism Foundation of Manitoba. For several years he was Hospital Chaplain as well as being actively involved in prison visitation and counselling. He also conducted numerous Evangelistic Crusades, and renewal meetings. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was Padre of Branch #4 Fredericton. He loved the outdoors and his appreciation of nature was reflected in his many wildlife paintings. Art was a devoted husband and father. Now that his earthly journey is over, he is in the presence of his Saviour and joyfully reunited with his sweetheart, “Neicey”.

A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, Fredericton, NB on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11am with Rev. Lawrence Meade officiating with a reception to follow in the Fireside Room. A Private Family Interment will be held in the Seymour Memorial Cemetery, Kingsley, NB.
