With deep sadness we the family announce the passing of Catherine Yvonne Davis, age 73, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in North Sydney on July 11, 1941, Yvonne was the daughter of the late John Charles and Mary Ann Bridget (Hall) Young.
Yvonne’s first job was at the Belmont Hotel in North Sydney. Later in life she worked for a number of years at H.B. Nickerson & Sons, before working side by side with her husband George as they operated “George & Yvonne’s Fish Market” in downtown North Sydney. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the North Sydney Fire Hall and a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines.
Yvonne is survived by her husband George, her four sons, George (Wanda), Eric (Jolene), both of Florence, Johnny (Colleen), Harley (Laurie), both of Sydney Mines, her seven grandchildren, George (Keisha), Randy (Kristen), Chad (Laurie), Kyle (Amanda), Chelsea (Kyle), Hannah and Catherine and four great-grandchildren George J., Haley, Owen Thomas and Ava. She is also survived by her siblings, Kevin (Patricia) Young, Ontario, Harley J. (Sandra) Young, Sydney Mines, Pauline Jessome, Bras d’Or, Marjorie Dickson, Halifax, Mary Agnes Petrossie, Bras d’Or, Ann Wood, Halifax, Ester (David) Ford, Boularderie, Margaret (Eric) Osselmann, Ontario and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Don, Wayne, John 'Bird' and infant brothers Earle and Earl; by her infant sister Pauline Mary and by her brothers-in-law, Byron Jessome, John Petrossie and Earl Wood.
Visitation for Yvonne will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery, Tobin Road, Sydney Mines.
Memorial donations may be made to the En Cala Unit or the Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
