Linda MUNRO

June 23, 1950 - May 29, 2015
LYONS BROOK - After a determined battle with cancer, Linda Ann Munro passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2015, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
Linda had a strong sense of family and community. Her family always came first. In her spare time, Linda loved to work with her hands and she willingly shared her talents with others. She especially loved to quilt, sew and do needle point.
Linda was the current president of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia and served on several W. I. committees over the years. She was the treasurer of the local NSTU for several years, belonged to the church choir, Trinitarians, Noteable Friends and various church committees.
Among her other volunteer work, Linda helped for many years at the local branch of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s annual walk. Linda’s biggest passion was, without doubt, her role as stage manager for the Pictou Rotary Club Annual Musicals. Her involvement with the Rotary earned her the Paul Harris Fellow Award, an achievement that made both Linda and her family very proud.
Linda spent 32 years of her life as a teacher, beginning in a one-room school house in Bridgeville and ending her career at West Pictou Consolidated School.
Linda is survived by her mother, Doris Jones and step-father, Charlie Jones of Lyons Brook; brothers, Charlie (MaryLou) Munro, Pictou Landing and Stewart (Susan) Munro, Hardwood Hill; step-brothers, Darrell (Maureen) Jones, Scotsburn and Sheldon (Diana) Jones, Sarnia, Ontario; nephews, Scott, Ryan, Andrew, Adam (Julie), Riley (Stephanie), Danny, Robbie; nieces, Jennifer (Stephen) and Cortney; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Linda was predeceased by her father, William K. Munro.
Visitation will take place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Lyons Brook United Church with Reverend Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens following the service. A reception will follow at the home of Stewart and Susan Munro, 544 Owen Road, Hardwood Hill. Family flowers only.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
Linda will be best remembered for her laughter and her wonderful sense of humour which was evident to the very end.
