Kempton, Shirley Marion - age 84, passed away May 28, 2015 in her home. Shirley was born on June 29, 1930, the daughter of the late Eldred and Helen (Crook) Smith. She was an only child growing up in Arcadia, Yarmouth County during the war years. She attended Yarmouth Academy where she met Jordan Kempton, they married in 1952 and raised their family in Yarmouth. They took great pride and pleasure in their Heritage home. She is survived by a son, Brenton (Carla); daughters, Jody (Brian) Belliveau and Kelly (Curt) Goudey, all of Yarmouth. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Brandon (Kayla) Goudey of Peace River, Alberta and Mackenzie, Yarmouth. She was predeceased by her husband, Jordan in 2007. Shirley loved the color blue, which was apparent throughout her beautiful home where she spent her remaining years with her rescued cat, Jazz. She was a great crafter and seamstress and in her later years discovered a love of quilting. She took great pleasure in donating many of her handmade items to local charities. “Nanny Shirl” was a loving soul with a kind heart, a curious mind, sharp wit and a great sense of humor. She will be fondly missed by her family and dear friends. There was no visitation or service by request. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
