TRENTON – Jessie May (MacNeil) Smith, 79, of Trenton, passed away peacefully in the Aberdeen Hospital on May 31 surrounded by her family.
A lifelong resident of Trenton, Jessie spent her life in service to others and was a woman of great faith and generosity. Some of her many volunteer activities included being a founding member and decades long volunteer with Pictou County Special Olympics, board member of HCRS, Christmas Kettle volunteer with the Salvation Army, CNIB, Joe Earle Road Races and providing entertainment at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home to mention but a few. In addition to the formal volunteer duties, Jessie's door was always open to anyone in need and there was always room at her table for one more. She had a passion for collecting and was renowned for her extensive collections of dolls and teapots which brought her great joy. She was employed with the Red and White Store in Trenton for many years followed by a career she loved at the Riverview Adult Residential Center. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene and her faith was at the centre of her life.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ernie, special son Peter Robson, parents William and Sarah (Hamilton) MacNeil, five brothers and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her children: Esther, Bradford (Linda), Gordon, Emma (Bob), Harold, Delbert (Linea), Walter (Alison) and Dale (Lisa); special sons: Henry Green, Archie Kontuk and John Charles Fraser; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
There will be no viewing by request. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 11 a.m. at the Trenton Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Leon Teal officiating. Reception to follow at the Trenton Rink.
No flowers by request. Donations in Jessie's memory may be made to the Joe Earle Memorial Day Road Races at any Scotiabank branch, or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks shown to Mom by Dr. Tom Park, the Oncology Department of the Victoria General Hospital and the wonderful staff at the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care and kindness during Jessie's last days.
