It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grampie (poppy) and great-grandfather, Gordon MacDonald, age 83, on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Tarbot, Victoria County on May 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Christie Jane MacDonald. He was the grandson of John D. and Margaret MacDonald and the great-grandson of Donald Ceister and Jane MacDonald. Gordon was a longtime employee of Irving Oil and his hobbies included model airplanes and tye flying. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Muriel (Howatson) MacDonald; his five children, Darlene (Wayne) Brown, Laura (George) Jabalee, Cheryl (Lawrence) MacDonald, Jamie (Melissa) and Brian (Valerie) MacDonald. Gordon is also survived by his grandchildren, Lawrence (Karen), Malcolm, Christina, Michael, Bobby, Noah, Dylan and Lucas and great-grandchildren Madison, Matteo and Patricia. He will also be missed by his buddy, Gizmo and many close friends, that we thank for their calls and visits.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer and Dr. Michael Igoe for their care of Gordon over the years. We would also like to thank the staff of the Northside General Hospital for all their support.
There will be no visitation or service as per Gordon’s wishes. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in North River.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the ALS Society of Cape Breton or a charity of choice.
