Michael Ross Genik

Michael Ross Genik, late of Birch Hills, SK, died peacefully at Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on May 29, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Mike is survived by his loving wife Theresa (nee Kluk), his children: Pamela (Peter Wilson) of Jasper AB, and Kevin (Heather Keegan); and his grandchildren: Nathan, Emily, Katelyn of Nipawin SK and his brother Lenard Genik. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Anne Genik and his brother Ernie. Mike was born on April 9, 1934 in Dauphin, MB. They lived in the Keld area outside of Riding Mountain National Park and then North of Dauphin. He worked various jobs before becoming an electrician. He married Theresa on August 25, 1962 in Benito, MB. They had two children in Dauphin and moved to Fort Churchill, MB in 1969 and Waskesiu Lake, SK in 1975 where he worked as a Journeyman Electrician with Public Works and Parks Canada until his retirement in 1995 when Mike and Terry moved to Birch Hills, SK. Mike was an accomplished musician. He learned how to play his guitar at age 9 and as a young man, played in several bands including The Riding Mountain Playboys. They travelled all over southern Manitoba playing dances for many years. He later gained an interest in the fiddle and banjo. Mike was always happy to play music whether it was in the church, the backyard or the Lakeview Hotel. He had a love of fishing and hunting but relished in reliving and telling of the adventure. He loved watching Blue Jays baseball and reading his Dauphin Herald. A Prayer Service for Mike will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 – 7:00 pm at St Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Birch Hills, SK. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday June 4, 2015 at 12:30, St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Michael Fahlman as celebrant, lunch to follow at the Birch Hills Civic Centre, followed by the interment at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mike’s life.
