Marjorie Louise (MacLellan, nee Burton) MacIntyre

Passed on: May 29th, 2015

With deep sadness we announce that our loving mother, Marjorie MacIntyre, passed away peacefully Friday, May 29, 2015, with family at her side after a very full 87 years of life.
Her unshakable spirit is carried on by her seven children, Alvin MacLellan (Bonnie), Judith White (Dan), Linda Self (Robin), Brenda Curry (Wayne), Brian MacLellan (Georgina), Karen MacDonald (Alex) and Theresa MacDonald (Michael); eight stepchildren, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one surviving sibling, Hilda Steele; and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.
Marge was born to Stanley and Elizabeth Burton, in 1928, and lived happily in Sydney all of her life.
She was predeceased by husbands, Alvin MacLellan and Ewen MacIntyre and by her siblings, Edna Ponée, Eleanor Lee, Dorothy Graciano, Phyllis Williston, Norma Wadden, Melvin Burton, Wallace Burton and Stanley Burton.
Mom was a stay-at-home parent who devoted herself to her seven children and her home. Ours was a welcoming home and we were counseled to invite in friends and playmates, and so we did with Mom greeting each and every youthful visitor with open arms and unbridled hospitality. She was the consummate provider, an accomplished homemaker and baker extraordinaire. Once her children realized their independence, Mom joined forces with a team of industrious women who were engaged by the Province of Nova Scotia in office cleaning. She applied herself to her work with unswerving resolve and boundless energy. Mom was also a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. For many years, she gave tirelessly to the ladies auxiliary, where she forged lasting friendships and experienced endless hours of enjoyment. In 1993, after 48 years of marriage, she lost her loving husband, Alvin, companion and the father of her seven children. In 2002, Mom was blessed by finding true love a second time and she married Ewen that spring. To Mom, family was golden and in exchanging vows with Ewen, she welcomed eight stepchildren into her heart and family at the age 74.
To good friend and caregiver, Carole Ludyka, we offer our enduring gratitude. Niece, Lois MacLean had a special place in mom’s heart and we are forever thankful for all that she did freely to enrich her life, bring her happiness, and elevate her spirit. As well, the family would like to thank the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their compassionate care.
Visitation to celebrate Mom’s life will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 5, 2015, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St., Sydney on Saturday, June 6 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
