EAST RIVER ST. MARY’S – It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Richard MacGrath, East River St. Mary’s, announce his passing, at the age 52, on Thursday, June 4, 2015.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the beloved son of Carl and Juanita (Fraser) MacGrath. Richard was employed with Michelin Tire, Granton, for over 30 years. He enjoyed four wheeling, fishing, barbequing for friends and family at the cottage, spending time with his cat, Jiggy. Richard was happiest when working in the family blueberry fields. He enjoyed every aspect of the blueberry farm, mowing, clearing land and harvesting. Richard will be remembered as a gentleman who possessed a heart of gold. He faced his fight with cancer with grace, dignity and amazing courage.
Richard adored his family. He is survived by his greatest love, wife, Barb (Hayden); son, Matthew (Melanie) and their children, Keely, Levi and Sutter, Fort Augustus, P.E.I.; daughter, Mandi Wilson, Salmon River; sisters, Kim MacGrath-Jackson, New Glasgow; Tammy (Dave) MacLaren, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, Scott (Florence) Hayden, New Glasgow; nephew, Avery Jackson, Clarence; nieces, Kilti and Courtney MacLaren, New Glasgow; Chantelle and Jenelle Walsh, New Glasgow; aunts, Thelma and Peg; many cousins.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7th in Zion Presbyterian Church, East River St. Mary’s with Rev. Derek Ellsworth officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, East River St. Mary’s.
Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Unit.
