It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend, Dale Christopher Leo Munroe, age 50, on Friday, June 5, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
Dale was born in Canso on Oct. 10, 1964, and was the son of the late Raymond and Kathleen (Sampson) Munroe. He was employed as a diesel mechanic at North Sydney Marine Railway and then at East Coast Hydraulics before his recent employment with Shannex at Celtic Court. It was there that he found his true calling, working with the elderly.
Dale lived in Sydney Mines, but his heart will forever remain at his summer retreat at Seal Island with his million dollar view, of which he was so proud. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, boating and spending time camping.
He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Shelley (Whalen) Munroe. His love and dedication to Shelley was evident to everyone who knew him. He is also survived by his five brothers, Eldon (Loretta), Little Dover, Merle, Canso, Paul (Juanita), Little Dover, Dave, Oxford, Clifford (Roberta), Antigonish and his sister, Margie (Ronnie) Horne, Canso; his mother-in-law, Donalda Whalen, North Sydney, a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Cheryl Whalen (Mike), Bedford, Shannon Whalen, Halifax and brother-in-law, Darren (Roberta) Whalen, Halifax.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Mike; his sister, Paulette and his father-in-law, Harry Whalen.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Harless, the Cancer Centre staff at the Cape Breton Regional, Dr. Paul Hickey and his office secretary Lori and also to palliative care.
Visitation for Dale will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
