HUGHES, ELSIE
Elsie Fredericka Christina Hughes passed away peacefully on June 7, 2015 at the Carleton Kirk Nursing Home. Born June 6, 1920 in Saint John, NB she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Long) Reid.
Elsie was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII, during her time in the army she met her late husband John Hughes. After being discharged from the Army they moved to Florida where Elsie started her own business and John worked construction. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Elsie will be missed by nieces Ann (Alick) Taylor and Donna (John) Black both of Quispamsis, NB and nephew Melwood (Brenda) Mckinnon of Dartmouth, NS.
Besides her parents Elsie was predeceased by husband John Hughes; brothers Ron Reid, Jim Reid and Jack Reid; sisters Katie Mckinnon and Margaret Reid.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Carleton Kirk Nursing Home for all of their excellent care.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Keeping with Elsie’s wishes there will be no visitation. A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. We will be leaving in procession from the funeral home at 10:45 a.m.
