It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Margie McNeil.
Margie passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the New Waterford Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Margie was born on Aug. 13, 1940, in Glace Bay. She was the daughter of the late Ranald and Flora MacLean. Margie was raised by the late Danny and Jessie MacLean.
Margie was employed at Cadegan’s Fish Plant, Glace Bay, and later at Cara Operations, Sydney Airport. She lived in Dominion for the past 56 years with her loving husband and children. Margie loved to dance at the Old Pig & Whistle. She was an avid dart player for many years and was also a member of the Kinettes. Margie loved to spend time with her family and extended family and everybody else who called her ‘Ma.'
Margie is survived by her seven children, Carol (Peter) MacNeil, Dominion, Darrell (Danielle), Ottawa, Neil (Gilbretta), Dominion, Kim (Edward), Dominion, Judy, Janine at home, Donnie (Michelle), New Brunswick; sisters, Dolena Pittman, Wilma Gregory; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; brother-in-law, Joseph Gilmet; sister-in-law, Dorothy MacLean; and her special furry friends, Molly and Maggie.
Margie was predeceased by her loving husband, Neil ‘Buddy’ McNeil, nine brothers and her sister, Floranne Gilmet.
We, the family, would like to thank the staff of the New Waterford Hospital, Dr. Ajuwon, Dr. Langley, a special thank you to the nursing staff on the second floor and to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Thursday at 3 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport followed by a reception in the church hall. Cremation will take place after the funeral with interment at a later date in St. Eugene’s Cemetery with her husband.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Margie may be made to the Alzheimer Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
