Allan Cunningham

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Allan Cunningham, Central West River on June 8 in the Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 16, 1945, he was the oldest son of Mary and the late Fraser Cunningham, formerly of Alma. After attending West Pictou District High, he started work as a carpenter, eventually building the family home. He was employed at Scott Paper(now Northern Pulp) for 34 years, retiring in 2003 with many lifelong friends.
Allan's battle began five years ago and it was his strong love for his family that gave him the strength to fight as valiantly as he did. Allan's "perfect day" was spent hanging out in the gazebo with family and friends stopping in for a visit and the sun shining so he could take his '65 Comet for a spin. His little known artistic talents entertained and impressed his girls, grandkids, coworkers and friends. Allan could build just about anything he set his mind to.
He is survived by his one true love, his wife of 47 years, Linda (MacKenzie) whose love and care was inspiring; his two daughters; Michelle (Steve) Hines, Durham and Robyn (Dave) Wilson, Chance Harbour; "Bup" to Connor and Emma Hines; Zachary, Nate and Annika Wilson; brothers, Neil (Sharon), Alma, Gary (Sharon), Edmonton; sisters, Joanne, Trenton, Janice, Six Mile Brook and Lynn, Victoria and mother and father in-law, Eleanor and Hector MacKenzie, Salem.
Special thanks to the amazing Dr. Farrell, Rhonda Langille, the wonderful nursing staff in Palliative Care, Dad's angels in the Chemo Dept; Bonnie, Alice, Cassidy, Ashley and Kim, VON, Dr. Hack and Dr. Cole. Additional thanks to his brother-in-law, Martin for his daily visits and helping hands.
Visitations will be held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Allan’s memorial service will be held Friday at 1pm from St. Luke's Presbyterian, Salt Springs with Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Burial will follow at Stillman Cemetery with a reception for family and friends at the West River Fire Hall. Family flowers only please. Donations gratefully accepted in Allan's name to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
