Lena (Safruk) Welykholowa (nee Palibroda)
March 19, 1918 – June 5, 2015
Our beautiful Mother and Grandmother was born on March 19, 1918 at Strong Pine, SK and passed away on June 5, 2015 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 97 years. Lena is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marie (Nick) Kalinowski, as well as her step-children: Garni (Mona), Marg (Don), Judy (Gary), Betty, and Joan (Hugh); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sisters Ellen Palibroda and Sophie Taylor and their families. Lena was predeceased by her son: Don Safruk, her first husband: Bill Safruk; her second husband: Bill Welykholowa; her parents: John & Mary Palibroda; her sister: Ann Bitterman; her brother: Al Broda; and her brothers-in-law: Jim Taylor, Joe Cote and Fred Bitterman. Mom worked hard on the farm, then later she went to work North at Tazen Lake Lodge, and also at the Pulp mill kitchen and as a janitor at the Community Clinic. Mom was a life member at the Orthodox Ladies Club and the Holy Trinity Church. Mom liked to travel in her younger years. Mom had many talents and loved her animals and she never turned anyone away if they needed help. Now her work here is done. Mom Rest in Peace, we will miss you. A Public Visitation for Lena will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 – 7:00 pm, MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 130 9th St E, Prince Albert, SK. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 – 10:00 am, Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 305-6th St. E., Prince Albert, SK with Father Michael Lomaszkiewciz officiating. Interment to follow in Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes donations made be made to the Prince Albert SPCA, Box 1832, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6J9.
