Passed on: June 10th, 2015
It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our devoted mother and grandmother on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Caroline 'Sis' was born on April 26, 1938 in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late John Francis and Sarah Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacIntyre.
Sis was a woman of strong Christian Faith and was a member of Saint Anthony’s parish, where she was married to Lawrence Ignatius McPhee. Sis and Lawrence moved to Bridgeport and Immaculate Conception Church, where they raised a family of seven children. Providing for and nurturing her family was central to her life. Sis’s kitchen was the heart of the McPhee home, a place where her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends would gather to eat well and tell the day’s stories. She enjoyed touring rural Cape Breton on family adventures and picnics as well as bingo, knitting, sewing, and Bunka stitching.
Sis is survived by her children, Lorna (Archie Gillis), Grand Mira; Andrea (Donnie Gillis), Grand Mira; Helen at home; Steve (Lesa MacLean), Glace Bay; Carolyn (Alvin Oravecz), Grand Mira; Lois (Michael Tanchak), Glace Bay and Vonnie, Glace Bay.
Nunna will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Allan (Katie), Michael (Holley), Joseph, Martin, Caroline, Kaitlyn, Maria, Laura, Michaela, Hanna, Daniel, Lawrence, Nicole and Allister. Sis is also survived by her brother-in-law, Michael; nephew, Ronnie McPhee and many other McPhee nieces and nephews as well as sister-in-law, Judy MacIntyre; niece, Anne Marie Hurley (MacIntyre); nephews, Brian, Paul and Johnny MacIntyre.
Sis was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Lawrence; brother, Angus 'Angie'; her uncle, Hector MacIntyre and her aunt, Helen (Lella) MacIntyre, who provided day by day care for Sis after the death of Sis’s mother.
Our mum appreciated the loving care provided by her children and grandchildren which, with the assistance of palliative care and the VON, enabled her to remain at home during her illness.
Visitation is Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau is Monday, 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. The reception is in the church hall.

A light is from our household gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
