Marilyn Mitchell

Marilyn Mitchell, 68, Amherst and formerly of Springhill. It is with great sadness that the family of Marilyn (MacIntosh) Mitchell announces her passing after a lengthy battle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Born in Oxford on May 26, 1947, Marilyn was the much loved daughter of Margaret (Casey) MacIntosh and the late H. Douglas “Bud” MacIntosh. She attended Oxford schools and subsequently graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers' College in 1967. After graduation she moved to Springhill and spent her career touching the lives of many children and staff members at West End Memorial School. She thoroughly loved teaching, and especially enjoyed the many moments spent laughing and learning with her colleagues. Over the years, Marilyn enjoyed numerous pursuits, including barbershop singing in chorus and quartet with many wonderful people. In recent years she acquired an interest in shuffleboard and playing bridge with the ladies. She was an avid reader, loved to quilt and especially enjoyed her days spent traveling, living life to the fullest and laughing (a lot) with her close knit family and special friends. Marilyn was an active and faithful member of the Amherst Wesleyan Church and she will be remembered always for her faith, integrity, commitment to her many close friends and family, and of course her wonderful sense of fun and adventure.
Aside from her mother, Marilyn is survived by her brothers, Roderick (Dianne) MacIntosh, Collingwood and Daniel (Betty Jean) MacIntosh, Sackville, NB; her children, Shawn (Cyndi) Mitchell, Fredericton, NB and Karla (Stefan) Mitchell-Smith, Springhill. She was also very proud of and is survived by her grandchildren, Natasha, Jordan, Paige, Spencer and Zoё and many special nieces and nephews. Marilyn's family would like to thank Dr. Janneke Gradstein, Dr. Sheldon Reuben and Dr. Diana Mukherjee for the excellent medical care she received in both Amherst and the Moncton City Hospital.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in the Oxford Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Pine Grove Cemetery.
