Nearing Sarson
Nearing Sarson, Stellarton passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at The Mira Long Term Care Centre in Truro after a lengthy illness.
Born in Stellarton June 19, 1931 to the late Robert and Margaret (Keating) Sarson.
As a young man he joined the work force of the Pictou County coal mines, a job he truly loved. He achieved various skilled positions of which he was very proud. His last shift was at the McBean mine in 1972. He then began a new career with Nova Scotia Power at the Trenton Generating Station which he enjoyed until his retirement. Nearing spent much quality time over the years at the camp with many friends. He was well known as "the camp cook" and enjoyed making meals that were " fit to eat ". He was also an avid Blue Jays fan and Jeopardy watcher.
Nearing is survived by his children Karen (Keith), Eastern Passage , Robert (Donna), Cameron Settlement, Lorraine (Bob), Antigonish, Jean (Troy), Eastern Passage. Grandchildren Jonathan (Julie), Aaron, Matthew and Logan. Great-grandchildren Becca and Jack. He is also survived by sisters Faye (Jack) and Roberta.
Nearing was predeceased by his wife Doreen (Murphy), brother Whitman, sisters Edwina ,Illaine , Georgina, Catherine, Edna Lou, Beth and Helen.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Thursday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Memorial service will be held at H W Angus Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow at 2 pm on Friday with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any branch of the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Mira for their many years of kind and compassionate care.
