It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecilia Mary Gottwald on June 4, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Christina MacDonald.
Cecilia graduated from Mount Carmel High School then moved to Toronto for employment in accounting positions. There she met and married the love of her life, Rudy. After raising two daughters, they returned to Cape Breton and built a retirement home overlooking Lingan Bay, enjoying card games and entertaining family and friends. Cecilia’s hospitality and wonderful sense of humour will be a lasting legacy of memories to those who knew her.
Cecilia is survived by her loving husband, Rudy 'Sonny'; daughters, Cynthia and Karen Gottwald; sisters, Marina, Cassie, Catherine, Alma; brother, Jerome MacDonald; sisters-in law, Frances, Wanda and Mary; brothers-in-law, Frank and Harold 'Sharkie' and two grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle.
Besides her mother, Cecilia was predeceased by her sisters, Annie and Rachel; brothers, Frank, Archie 'Ock', Collie; sisters-in-law, Anne and Helen and brothers-in-law, Joseph, Alex, Edward and Florian.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate Cecilia’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating, followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C Hall, Plummer Avenue. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
