HERSEY, Vera Frances - Born March 19,1922, passed away peacefully at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on May 19, 2015 at the age of 93 with Skip and Vikki by her side. She was predeceased by her parents William and Louisa (Burrell) Hersey her brother Frank Burrill; a baby that died in infancy and her great nephew Shawn Hersey. She never had any children of her own but was like a mother to her nephew George (Skipper) Hersey. Vera enjoyed doing needle point or fancy work as she called it. She loved car rides and going to get apples for pies and apple sauce. She loved to go for walks, always had a clothesline full of clothes and was always cleaning something until she just couldn't do it anymore. Vera worked at the Cotton Mill for 50 years, she walked to and from work every day and never took a sick day. She was given an air clock when she retired which she was very proud of, she also worked weekends at the Vanguard sorting flyers. Surviving relatives are her sister Alice Orth (Roy deceased); nieces Darlene Brooks (Doug deceased); Cindy Webster (Greg) Ontario; Dawn, Long Island, NY and Jennifer, Boston; nephews George "Skipper" Hersey (Debby), Yarmouth; Derek Burrill and family North Carolina; great niece Charlene (Murray); great nephews Steven and Nathan and great great nieces Jordan and Taylor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeney's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be a graveside service on Saturday July 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Brooklyn Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Salvation Army. We would like to thank Vikki Pothier, the nurses on fourth floor south, her Doctor and all the home care workers, also any and all who have been there to help along the way.
