It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Adeline 'Ben' (nee Doucette) Matheson at Taigh Na Mara on June 16, 2015, comforted by her nephew Eric Fabian Doucette.
Born July 2, 1915 in New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, Adeline was one of 11 children of the late William Charles and Ada (nee Mason) Doucette.
In her earlier years, she was a cashier at Shore’s Grocery Store in New Aberdeen where she met and befriended so many of the store’s patrons. Adeline was a devout Christian, loving wife and caring person always prepared to offer her talents to help others.
Adeline is survived by her brother Earl Doucette (Lethbridge) and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Stewart Matheson, brothers, William 'Willy' Albert and Thomas ‘Tommy’, Arthur 'Shep' and sisters, baby Ena, baby Lorraine, Evelyn ’Evy’, Sarah ‘Sally’, Martha and Edna Mae.
The family are extremely grateful to Dr. Jamie MacLean, and the staff on level 2 at Taigh Na Mara who collectively contributed to the excellent care and quality of life she enjoyed as a resident. Taigh Na Mara and its compassionate staff have been home to Adeline since August of 2004.
In honour of Adeline’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Patten Funeral Home in Glace Bay. Graveside service will be on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Cemetery, Wallaces Road, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Adeline’s name may be made to Holy Cross Parish or Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay.
