Daniel MacSween
Born In: Ironville
Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: June 17th, 2015
The MacSween family is sad to announce the death of Daniel MacSween, who passed away on June 17, 2015, in Sydney.
Dan was born in 1922 in Ironville, N.S. He farmed on the family property for the first part of his life, and then joined the Sydney Police Force in 1954. He retired as a sergeant in 1987.
He is survived by three children, Nancy Guidolin, Calgary; Rankin MacSween (Marie), Ironville and Grace Steele (Kevin), Calgary. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Meaghan MacSween, Toronto, Glenn Steele, Calgary, and Katherine Steele, Calgary.
Dan was preceded by his wife, Marguerite (MacLean), and son, Danny ‘Danny Boy’ MacSween. He was the youngest and the last living of seven children to parents, Stephen and Maggie Sarah (MacNeil).
Dan was happiest when he was telling stories to the people he loved. In his retirement years, family and his many friends came from near and far to sit with him in the kitchen on the homestead, and listen to stories about his childhood, his years as a policeman and his trips across Canada to visit his children. His timing was impeccable, and there was always laughter.
Visitation is Sunday, June 21, from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. with the funeral Mass being celebrated at 11 a.m., all taking place at St. Andrew's Church, Boisdale. A reception at the Boisdale Fire Hall to follow.
Please join us to remember Papa Dan, his life, and his stories.
Donations can be made to St. Andrew's Church Cemetery Fund.
