With saddened hearts we would like to announce the death of Bernadean Cecelia Herney, 49 of Membertou, who died surrounded by her loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Thursday, June 19, 2015.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late ‘Putus’ Charles and Matilda (Googoo) Herney.
Bernadean was self-employed as an artisan most of her life and also a hairdresser. She took pride in her creation of jewelry and Mi’kmaq crafts. She was well known at the local fairs and other events in Sydney and surrounding area, where she always had a smile and a story to share. Bernadean was a loving mother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed the company of and spending time with her little cousins. She was a member of Saint Ann’s Mission Church and her Christianity and spirituality were important to her.
She is survived by her loving sons, Logan and Drew (Beth), both of Membertou. Also surviving are her sisters, Lynda Wells (Lawrence), Hazel and Sylvia; brothers, Bruce (Sandra), Michael, Jeffery (Sandra) and Clifford (Shannon). Also surviving is one godchild, Michael Copage; special cousins, Lorraine and Heidi Marshall and a large number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Theresa Mugridge, Rhodena Christmas and a brother, Earl Herney.
Visitation for Bernadean will take place at the home of her cousin, Lorraine Marshall 24 Maillard St., Membertou starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2015 continuing until Tuesday, June 23, 2015. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 23 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, 40 Cabot St., Sydney with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
