Martina Schmidt

SCHMIDT, Martina Ingrid
With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our dearest Martina at the age of 48 on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at her home in Toronto.
Martina is survived by her mother, Gertrud Schmidt; sisters Katrin, Trudy (Glen), Monica Franklin (Peter) and Brigitta; and brother Christian (of Halifax). Beloved aunt to nieces Emily, Lucie, Hana and Sydney; and nephews Julian, Olafr and Theo.
Many dear friends were made throughout the years. Martina will be missed by everyone who knew her; and will be remembered by those closest to her as caring and compassionate and offering a helping hand to everyone, friends and strangers alike.
Martina was born in New Brunswick and spent her early years in Hammond River; summers helping in the family nursery business alongside her mother and siblings. During the winter the Schmidt children would be seen regularly tearing down the ski hills at Poley Mountain. After high school, Martina moved to Toronto for university. In her twenties, she lived and travelled through Europe while working in the front office for the Cirque de Soleil and made many lasting friendships. After returning to Toronto, Martina worked many years at CIBC (and HP) and will be sadly missed by her team and long-time colleagues.
Martina’s longtime membership in the Irish Choral Society provided the source of expression for her love of singing and music. Through her passion for gardening and love of animals, she created a beautiful backyard garden and animal sanctuary. Her green thumb extended to appropriating many neighbour’s gardens as well, much to their delight.
Visitation will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue), Toronto, Ontario 1-800-616-3311 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Cremation and private family interment will follow.
Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
