It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family of Mary O’Handley, announce her passing on June 21, 2015
Born on Sept. 18, 1953, in Glace Bay, N.S., Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret McMullin.
Mary was a quiet and thoughtful woman who loved her family deeply. She cherished spending time with her husband, Matthew; her daughter, Cathy; her two sons, Michael and Scott O’Handley, and her three grandsons, Liam, Joshua, and Eric O’Handley. Mary also loved laughing and telling stories with her friends at work, watching movies, and talking to her family on the phone. Mary always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she would meet.
Mary will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Matthew O’Handley; her three children, Cathy (Paul) O’Handley, Michael (Melissa), O’Handley, and Scott O’Handley. Mary is also survived by her three grandsons, Liam, Joshua and Eric O’Handley. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Doreen (Gurney) Clements, Alexis (Mike) McNeil and her brother Gerard (Kim) McMullin. Mary will also be missed by her friends, neighbors, and extended family.
Besides her parents, Mary was also predeceased by her brother, Eugene McMullin.
At Mary’s request cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday June 25th at Immaculate Conception Parish Church, Bridgeport, N.S.
The family of Mary O’Handley would like to thank Dr. McCormick and staff for their care and attention they provided during this time. The family would also like to thank the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) for their level of care, especially Amanda MacDonald-Borden who provided care and compassion beyond measure during Mary’s final days.
