It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ruth V. Higgins, wife of the late George Thomas Higgins, which occurred at the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home with her daughter and son-in-law by her side, on Saturday, June 13th, 2015.
Ruth was born on January 30, 1920 in Saint John to the late John and Mary (Farren) (Gibson) Ferris.
Ruth had a strong presence in her church, Grace Presbyterian, where she devoted many hours of her time and talents throughout the years. Ruth was very proud of her 46 year career with T.S. Simms & Co. Ltd. Following her retirement, Ruth’s greatest pleasure in life were the moments spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren who she was very proud of - “Love you forever”
Ruth was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Ruth will be dearly missed by her only child Brenda (Stephen) deForest, grandchildren, Lt (N) Ryan C. deForest (Victoria, BC), Robyn L. deForest (Seamus McDonough) (Saint John, NB), sisters-in-law, Shirley Ferris, Betty Ferris, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents and husband George, Ruth is predeceased by her sisters Mabel C. (Gibson) Capson and Dorothy H. (Gibson) English, brothers; William John Jr (Buster), L. J. Douglas, Ronald G. and Kenneth R.M.
The family would like to thank all the staff at St. John & St. Stephen Church Home for their wonderful care and compassion for Ruth during her time at the Home. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (634-7424) with visitation at Brenan’s on Saturday, June 27th from 4 to 8pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 28th at 2:00 PM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 101 Coburg St. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension, Manawagonish Road on Monday, June 29th at 1:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, St. John & St. Stephen Church Home or charity of the donor’s choice.
