It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Simms announce her peaceful passing on June 23, 2015 at the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL. She was predeceased by her parents Harrison and Annie Pike; husband of 67 years, John Simms; brothers-in-law Hubert Simms and Max Simms; sisters-in-law Mary Green and Pearl Wells. She is survived by her son Phillip (Linda) of Thornhill, ON and grandson John (Vanessa) of Toronto ON; and son Barry (Janet) and grandsons Billy and Chad of Massey Drive, NL; brother Frederick Pike (Joan) of St. John's, NL, sisters Fern Murphy (Gerald), Maisie Brake (Freeman) and sister-in-law Betty Simms, all of Corner Brook, NL. She is also survived by a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. As a young woman growing up in Petries, NL, Muriel attended the United Church School and was an active member of Curling Memorial United Church. During WWII she worked at Ernest Harmon Field Air Force Base in Stephenville, NL. In 1946, she married John Simms of Corner Brook and moved to Toronto, ON. While there, Muriel worked at Carlton Cards. They returned home in 1953 where Muriel became a full time homemaker devoting her life to her family and friends. As per her request, final arrangements were entrusted to Russell's Funeral Home of Stephenville, NL. Cremation has taken place. A family and friends gathering will be held at the home of Barry and Janet Simms from 1-4 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 1 Country Lane, Massey Drive, NL with interment taking place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Curling Memorial United Church, c/o 34 Allen's Road, Corner Brook, NL A2H 3G9, or a charity of ones choice.
