Aaron "Larry" Levine

LEVINE, AARON "LARRY" LAWRENCE - Aaron Lawrence (Larry) Levine (July 26, 1925 - July 3rd, 2015), died peacefully surrounded by family at Pine Grove Nursing Home, in Fredericton, NB. Larry is survived by his children, Andrew, Hollie, Corey, Meredith (Thomas Rose) and Rennie (Katherine) and granddaughter, Brooke Rose. Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Fay Levine (Nagler).
Born in Edmonton to Angela and William Levine, Larry was an only child who inherited a wry sense of humour from his father, and a love of literature from both his parents. After the death of his mother when he was 9, Larry was raised by his grandmother, suffragette Clara Luden.
Larry received his BA in History from the University of Alberta, an MA in Economic History from the University of Toronto and a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE). He would later return to the LSE as a Nuffield Fellow. Larry joined the Department of Economics at the University of New Brunswick in 1956.
His love of teaching and research never wavered. Larry retired fully in 1994 as professor emeritus and continued with his research until 2005.
While he had many interests, social justice was a central focus of Larry’s life. He worked
with many organizations to help achieve this end. But Larry’s biggest gift was his heart and his bottomless love for his wife and family.
The family thanks the wonderful staff at Pine Grove for their support. We are forever grateful to Helen Basque, Larry's extraordinary caregiver.
The funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Sunday, July 5th, 2015 at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel in Fredericton. Rabbi Yosef Goldman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sgoolai Israel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Larry Levine Scholarship Fund at UNB and the Greener Village Community Food Centre. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam's Funeral Home, (506) 458-9170. www.mcadamsfh.com.
