Janie MacKenzie
F. J. “Janie” MacKenzie- Age 101, formerly of Scotsburn, passed away peacefully at the Maritime IOOF Home in Pictou Saturday, July 4th, 2015 with her cousin Chris by her side.
Janie was born in Pictou on June 12, 1914. She was a daughter of the late Franklin and Elizabeth (Shea) Stramberg. Janie’s mum passed away when she was two and she and her two sisters were lovingly cared for by her grandparents, the late Iric Stramberg and Janet (MacKean) Stramberg.
Janie attended school in Pictou, she loved cats and always had a “house cat” which she looked after with great care. She was a very kind and loving person and welcomed everyone who came to visit with a cup of coffee and something to eat. Janie did sewing, knitting, crocheting and read many books. She also enjoyed working in her garden.
The last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by her husband, David; sisters, Opal Hooper (James) and Marjorie.
She is survived by her cousins, Chris Ross and Family, Scott Young and his family. She is also survived by other cousins.
Chris would like to extend a sincere thanks to her home care givers and the VON who took such great care of her at home. To the staff of the IOOF Home, Pictou, thank you for the love, care and kindness shown to Janie during her stay. To her Scotsburn neighbours, thank you for your visits, treats, and kindness shown during her years in Scotsburn.
Visitation was held 6-9 PM Monday July 6th, in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be take place 11 AM today, Tuesday July 7th from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Interment will be in St John’s Cemetery, Scotsburn.  
Donations in memory of Janie may be made to a charity of your choice.
