Evelyn Susanna (Gerbrandt) Rayner of Swift Current, SK and formally of Morse, SK passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on June 27th, 2015, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, the same day her mother, Mary Hass passed away in 1963. The funeral was held on June 30th in the Morse United Church officiated by Pastor Linda Stumpf and music provided by Valerie Burgess, and Special Amazing Grace on Bagpipes by Bruce Rayner, the eulogy was read by Brenda Wilson and special remembrance by family members. Interment took place in Memory Lane Cemetery. Loved ones gone before her were grandfather Gerhard Bornn in 1958; mother Mary Agnes (Bornn) Penner-Gerbrandt-Haas in 1963; husband Elmore Rayner in 1999; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Ben (Billy) Penner, Julius (Pearl) Penner, Walter (Helen) Penner, Leonard Gerbrandt; sister and brother-in-law Madge (Charlie)(nee: Gerbrandt) Belter; Roy, Cal (Lucy) and Cecil Rayner; nieces Joyce Harper, Judy Whitley and Roberta Carleton (All nee: Penner), Josie Gerbrandt; nephews Tom Gerbrandt and Clifford Belter. She will lovingly be remembered by Agnes Gerbrandt and Ruth Rayner. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: Marsha (Joseph) Knittel; David (Tracy), Braydon (Hailey Lemay), Danielle (David Korven), Taya and Darren (Roxane), Troy (Charlie), Joseph and Jolen; Mervin (Alice) Rayner; Susan (Kevin) Parkin, Sam, Steven, Katelyn, Veronica (Ken) Prince, Jordan, Justin, Brentley (Debbie Reeves) Rayner; Roger (Val) Rayner; Scot (Nicole), Mathew, Taylor, Boston, Hudson and Sharla, Zealand; Robin (Kelly) Erickson, Shaun (Krista), Irelynn, Rohmyn, Amber, Brody (Jessica), Raya, Halle; and Jared; Kelly Rayner, Carissa Zacharias, Jovi; Corbin (Katie Donnelly) Switzer, Nyobi; Kerry (Katherine) Rayner; Kyle (Kelly Lynn Skappak), Kohen, Kalen, Kody and Kalesha; Brenda (Cecil) Wilson, Ryan (Alanna) and Tyler; Bruce (Connie) Rayner, Liam. She also leaves to mourn her dearest friend from childhood Betty Haubrich and very good friend Verna Reynolds lovingly dubbed "ninth daughter" and family; numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends. Evelyn was born on the family homestead on Section 17-17-8 W 3rd ½ mile west and 1 mile North of Morse on November 11th, 1927. She married Elmore Rayner in 1946 and they had eight children; living in Morse until 1986 relocating to Swift Current. She moved to the Heritage Towers senior building in 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed her time there. Evelyn had fond memories of her childhood living on a farm and riding horses across the lake south of town to round up the cows for the night. She walked to school and back earning grade eight. Evelyn's favorite subjects were the 3 R's and History. Evelyn was known for her sewing talents, especially making quilts; boasting a total of 400 hand quilted. She loved to travel and visited Disneyland and Disneyworld with her family. She travelled to BC frequently visiting her Betty and Syd Gaudry also reuniting with her foster sister Gladys (Friesen) Sparrow. She and "Gladie" travelled to Hawaii, Vegas, Nashville and Washington. One of Evelyn's greatest accomplishments was learning to drive a car in her 50's. She loved adventure and drove a wave runner last year at our annual Rayner camping week. She had a big heart and a wonderful smile and loved visitors. She had a generous nature and many lovingly called her 'mom' throughout her life. Evelyn worked many jobs from babysitter to waitress, launderer to painter and cleaning over 20 homes and businesses in the town of Morse including the manse, school, town hall, Elks Hall, credit union, bank and post office. She worked at Trembly's garage and waitressed at Esso café and Chinese restaurant. She was sales lady for Fuller Brush, Avon, Tupperware and Shaklee. Evelyn served on the Morse UCW and was a long time member of the United Church in Morse until its closure on June 30, 2015. Donations gladly accepted at Morse Museum P.O. Box 308 Morse, SK S0H 3C0.
