Idella 'Lynette' Layton, 83, of Kentville, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, with her family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Mary B. (Roberts) Gillan. In her younger years she was employed by the F. W. Woolworth Co. She was a former member of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines and presently a member of Kentville United Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society and the ladies auxiliary for almost 30 years. The highlight of the year being the annual Christmas Tea and Sale. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Evangeline Chapter 15, Kentville. Lynette was a special grandmother to many children and was well known for her homemade cookies.
She is survived by her husband, J. Wilbert Layton; daughters, Lynda (Kim) Thorsen and Carolyn (Mike) McKenna; son, David; grandchildren, Shawn (Carrie) Thorsen and Jody Thorsen; Cherlyn, Stuart and Juanita Layton; Hayley, Carley and Paul McKenna; great-granddaughter, Kaisa Thorsen; brother, Stelburne (Lillian); nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by son, Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, Reverend Devin Johnstone officiating. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines, Pastor Charmaine James officiating.
Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to Brookside Cemetery Fund, c/o Charles Layton, 21 Brown Street, Sydney Mines, NS, BlV 1E9 or the Valley Hospice Foundation.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
