It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our husband, father, brother and grandfather, William 'Bill' Simpson on July 7, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Toronto, he was the only son of the late William and Mable (Eccles) Simpson.
Bill retired as captain after 30 years of dedicated service to the North York Fire Department. He was V.P of the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association which he took very personally, taking care of his 3000 brothers and sisters and their families. Retiring in 2001 to his second home, Cape Breton Island he immediately joined the N.V.V.F.D. He also was active as the training officer for level one. Always concerned with the safety of others he became a crossing guard for the C.B.R.M. and to no surprise he became involved in their union as president and later as V.P.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Ron & Dawn; the joy of his life grandson, Joshua; loving sister, Sandra (Donald) Allan, Ont.; sister & brother-in-law, Linda (Frank) Helle; special friend, Marina Clark. He is also survived by his nieces, Cathy Norris, Michelle Helle, Tanya (John) Martell; nephew, David (Betty) Allan, Ont., and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11th followed by a chapel service at 11 a.m. in the McLellan Brothers Chapel with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, New Victoria and a reception will be held at the parish hall, Convent Street. All are welcome.
