It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Beatrice Marie Marsh, 95, formerly of Ellsworth Avenue, New Waterford, announce her passing on July 8, 2015 at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford (a leap year baby) on Feb. 29, 1920, she was a daughter of the late George B. and Catherine 'Cassy' (MacDonald) Marsh. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Beatrice is survived by her nephews, George (Linda) Fraser, Sydney, Michael Fraser, Vancouver, B.C.; great-nephew, Darryl (Nicole) Fraser, Sydney and their son, Bea's pride and Joy, Zachary Fraser.
Beatrice was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn 'Effie' Fraser, wife of Leo Fraser and her brother, Alphonse 'Fonny' Marsh.
Bea was a devout Catholic, a member of the former St. Agnes parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard, and a good friend of the Sisters of Charity. In her younger years, she loved to travel and visit friends and family in Ontario and Boston. She loved watching sports, namely curling, tennis, hockey and boxing.
Bea worked at General Instruments, BEC and Sydney Academy cafeterias. She often spoke fondly of the many lifelong friends she made during the family's camping days at Burke's campsite in Albert Bridge with her sister Effie.
An avid gardener, nothing made her happier than when the flowers bloomed in her family yard. Proud and caring, she never forgot her roots and family was always in her heart. Bea will always be in our hearts and minds.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, July 13 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Bill Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford.
Bea loved cats, especially Spider, so donations may be made to the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society, P.0. Box 85, Sydney, N.S., B1P-6G9.
